日前，一项刊登在国际杂志the Journal of Internal Medicine上的研究报告中，来自瑞典卡罗琳学院等机构的研究人员通过研究发现，每天摄入一包或更多鼻烟（瑞典鼻烟或浸渍烟草）的个体患2型糖尿病的风险会增加70%。鼻烟是发酵烟叶粉末调香而成，并以鼻吸用的一种无烟烟草制品。

据瑞典公共卫生机构数据显示，在瑞典大约有19%的男性及4%的女性会摄入鼻烟，同样在人群中2型糖尿病也非常普遍，大约有7%的成年人会被诊断为糖尿病，而且有高达20%的人群都处于糖尿病发病风险区域，糖尿病或许还会诱发个体出现多种并发症，比如心血管疾病或者过早死亡等。

本文研究中，研究人员对1990年至2013年间来自54500名男性的数据进行分析，在研究期间有2441名个体被诊断为2型糖尿病，基于本文研究的规模，研究人员才能够评估鼻烟对从不吸烟的人群所产生的影响。

研究者Sofia Carlsson教授表示，我们证实了早期的研究猜测，即鼻烟个体患2型糖尿病的风险较高，而且这种效应似乎并不能通过个体偶然间的吸烟或不健康的生活方式所解释。鼻烟摄入水平较低（每周5-6包）的个体患2型糖尿病的风险会增加40%，而对此可能性的解释或许就是尼古丁的效应了，实验研究结果表明，尼古丁能够损伤机体的胰岛素敏感性并且增加个体患2型糖尿病的风险。

鼻烟使用者往往会将其暴露于同吸烟者相同剂量的尼古丁中，当个体停止摄入鼻烟时其患病风险就不会增加，这就表明戒掉鼻烟或许对机体会带来一定的益处。

从更广泛的角度来讲，当前研究结果表明，相比鼻烟使用者而言，吸烟人群更容易患癌症及心血管疾病，但就2型糖尿病的风险而言，鼻烟引发2型糖尿病的危险性并没有吸烟那么严重。个体患糖尿病的趋势会受到生活因子的驱动，因此要降低个体患糖尿病的风险就不应当摄入烟草，而且还要尽量避免过重以及不运动。
